another two racist attacks in Athens

12th September 2011

I would like to tell you about my sad day. I want to let you know how much I suffer and how blood-shat over me painfully during the tragedy that happened to me. I am alone, helpless, justice-less and with the absolute violation of my humanity. I was attacked by five persons today. When I was going to my work they beat me without any reason. I shouted for help but nobody responded. Nearby four motorcycled police were stopped. I asked help and they asked me where the attackers are. I showed them the criminals and the police saw all of them when they got into their car. The police took my information and they ordered me to go to the next police station to make a police case. When I went there the officer in charge asked me about information on the a attackers. Nobody was arrested. He said, he cannot do anything. I failed to make an official report. They told me I have to go to the police head quarters with copies of my registered accusation and 100 EURO. I asked if they can give me a paper to go to the hospital because I was bleeding and paining. My simple humanitarian demand was reject, and nothing can be done, unless I bring the above mentioned prerequisites.
I went to GCR – the Greek Council for Refugees because I am asylum seeker and I asked for help. I told the story to one lady at the door. She never let me to see a lawyer or social worker. I needed medical treatment, my body paining me so hard. I am walking heavy. She only took my data and she said to me this is the system and this is Greece and I cannot change it.
I am in danger. My health is in very bad situation and I am a father of one daughter living here with my family as asylum seekers. I go to work in order to earn a little bit money for my family and to survive. Now, I have no right to walk and go to work. I came from Darfur / Sudan because of violence and the violation of human rights. There is no protection from my state, and today my life is in danger also in Athens.

According to KEERFA, on September 10th an organized pogrom against Pakistani immigrants took place in Aspropyrgos, Athens. More than 25 immigrants were wounded – four of them were hospitalized.
Forty thugs with bats and other weapons gathered on late afternoon close to the suburban train station. From there they started the assaults. They stopped a public bus, held it for 15 minutes and attacked four immigrants that were on it.
Then, they invaded at least ten houses and destroyed immigrants’ property. In some cases they even destroyed the roof. They broke furniture and stole systematically laptops, mobile phones and money.
Around 11pm, at the house of Sampir Hussein, the same fascist gang went to the extend of drawing guns. Two people that were at home were shot – the bullet passed close to the shoulder of one.
AND THE POLICE? Outside the Aspropyrgos Police Station the same gang broke the car of a Pakistani immigrant who went there to report the attack at his house by the same gang! Four or five cars of the gang had followed the immigrant up to the door of Aspropyrgos Police Station! The head of the local police said that police officers searched for the attackers, but did not find anyone!
The pogrom is an escalation of systematic fascist violence in Athens. Ten days ago, in the neighborhood of Aghioi Anargyroi, fascists stabbed an immigrant from Bangladesh and burned a mosque.
