Following the operation “Xenos Zeus” Greek police arrested on Saturday 4, August 2012 in Athens 4.900 persons of which 1.130 were brought in for questioning. The police in a press release of the same day claimed that “national survival” was at stake for debt-choked Greece. The aim of the operation was “to send them back to their countries of origin, close the borders and ensure that Athens returns to being a lawful city with a quality of life,” police spokesman Christos Manouras said. 88 of the arrested are planned to be deported on Sunday August 5 in the night from Athens airport. The majority of them are from Pakistan.
Operation Xenios Zeus, ironically named after the name of the king of the ancient Greek gods in his role as protector of guests, mobilised 2,000 police in Athens and another 1,800 on Greece’s eastern border with Turkey. Continue reading ‘Massive sweep operation in Athens since August 2, 2012’

Greece is quadrupling the number of guards at its border with Turkey and boosting other defenses in part because of a potential
influx of Syrian refugees, a government minister said Monday.

Almost daily by now the murderous racist attacks in Greece

A video of the attack, recorded secretly by a bystander and uploaded onto the Internet, showed a group of young men, most of them dressed in black, running down a flight of stairs at a metro station and attacking someone. Cries of “No, no” in broken Greek can be heard, though the victim is barely discernible, as well as an exchange between two of the assailants.

“Did you stick the knife in him?” one asks. “I shoved it in all the way,” another responds.

Refugee in coma after racist attack in Patras

On June 24, 2012 a young refugee was attacked by a group of persons who had arrived at the place on their motor bikes. They beat him unconscious. It is yet unclear if he will survive the attack. As civilian witnesses observed, one of the perpetrators was a known member of the fascist party golden dawn. The civilians also witnessed that the police hesitated to react and save the victim.

Two dead refugees were found inside a bus that arrived on June 23, 2012 in Ancona, Italy. The heat and lack of oxygen lead to the death of the unfortunate refugees and to the devastating health conditions of the others.
According to the news 18 refugees from Afghanistan were hiding inside the vehicle.

Last Tuesday another 7 refugees had lost their lives when trying to reach the Italian shore on a small boat.

Fascist attackers identified by migrant victims

Six people – five men and one woman – who were being questioned by police on Tuesday morning over an attack on a group of migrants living in a home in the industrial suburb of Perama, southwest of Piraeus, were identified by their victims.
According to police reports, the six suspects were among a group of 10 Greeks who attacked the four Egyptian men, aged between 28 and 42 years old, while they were asleep in the their home around 3 a.m.
The attackers used bats and other makeshift weapons to break the windows of the residence and smash two cars and a motorcycle, before attacking the four men and injuring one, the 28-year-old, seriously.
The victims of the attack later identified the six suspects as being among the group that attacked them.
